Below is a Quicktime file that contains 2 photos that haven't been seen in over 35 years!! The first taken in 1965 features my very first drum set. The second picture, taken by Mary Ellen Wickett, is one of my favorites, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Chet Wickett has passed away, and, Mary Ellen, one of my dearest friends, passed away suddenly on December 16th, 2003. Their love and kindness towards me will never be forgotten.
Photo #2, l-r: Ronnie Cunningham, Lee, Steve Currier, & Galen LaBree.
It probably can truthfully be said, that no DJ in Maine has performed for more people (on the radio and in person) than "Mr. Solid Gold" - Lee Rand. His promotion of Maine artists and groundbreaking shows telling the stories of Maine's 60's rockers have left their mark on Maine broadcasting. His love and enthusiasm for his work couldn't be hidden! For a period of only 8 years, Lee broadcast his "Solid Gold Show"; on several radio stations covering much of the northern two-thirds of the State of Maine, and performed his old fashioned record hops live throughout the State.
Presented here for your entertainment and/or amusement is, admittedly, a very limited overview of those 8 brief fun-filled years when nostalgia was King and those "Golden Oldies" lived again at Mr. Lee's!! Rock on!!

"A simple twist of fate"
Recently found photo (August 2004) of Lee performing to a standing-room-only crowd in 1986 at the K of C Hall in South Lincoln. Ron Bouchard, who handled Lee's bookings, lights and sound is on the right. Lee was the only entertainer to sell out the K of C Hall - which he did several times.
Lee quit smoking on May 1, 1985. Lee also does not advocate the use of alcohol, with the exception of red wine as prescribed in the Bible for medicinal purposes.
This section dedicated to Ron Bouchard & Jerry Tracy who at various times served as Lee's booking agent, sound men, and most importantly, his friends.
